Background:

On 28 September 2018, a series of strong earthquakes struck Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, including a 7.4 magnitude earthquake, 10 km deep, with an epicenter close to the provincial capital, Palu.

This earthquake triggered a tsunami, with waves reaching a maximum height of three meters. The combination of the earthquake, tsunami, liquefaction and landslides caused significant damage and loss of life across the affected areas of Palu, Donggala, Sigi, and Parimo districts.
